Assume the guise of Luke Skywalker and fight for the Rebel Alliance as you follow the plot of the second Star Wars movie in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. In 2D-platform style, guide your Tauntaun through the icy caverns of Hoth, evacuate Echo Base, brave the swamps of Dagobah and fight your way through the Imperial forces on Bespin. Other levels allow you to destroy AT-ATs in your snowspeeder and battle hostile ships in your X-wing.

As the game progresses, Luke grows more powerful with the Force, allowing him to jump higher, run faster, reflect enemy shots, enhance the power of his weapons (lightsaber and blaster), levitate and convert the power in his Force meter to health. Some of these are attained early in the game, but many are learned in Dagobah under the tutelage of Yoda.

In addition to such common foes as Stormtroopers and Probe Droids, Luke also must defeat the bounty hunter Boba Fett and give his all against Darth Vader in a climactic confrontation.

Game Codes & Cheats

Destroy AT-AT's on Foot:
In the snowspeeder level if you get shot down, there is no need to board the bonus snowspeeder. This way is much quicker: You get Luke parallel with the AT-AT and push A and UP at the same time and Luke will automatically destroy it with his lightsaber.

Tow Cables:
When fighting the AT/AT's on planet Hoth, press B and SELECT at the same time. This will arm you with three tow cables which can be fired at the AT/AT's thus disabling them. It is best to aim for the proximal aspect of the legs of the AT/AT's.

Extra Life:
On the first board, stay to the top. After you get to the first R2-D2 continue at the end of a tall hill with flames coming out of it, get ready.
Kill the guys that you see and then fall straight down and to the left. If you do this correctly, you will here part of the theme song and you will have an extra life. If you miss it you will fall to your demise. Careful, it takes practice!

Backward Compatibility

All Game Boy and Game Boy Color console games can also be played on the newer Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP consoles.
